Mixed Levels.
Please note * The first Monday of the month, Yin Yoga is offered. Yin Sessions are best for those who are taking a gentler approach, and/or those who would like a slow, nourishing experience. It is excellent for alleviating stiffness from patterns caused by technological devices. Yin is supported by the use of props, and resembles restorative yoga, with a meditative and alignment based frame. It is more engaged than traditional restorative yoga

Considerations
A red diagonal line will appear on the microphone when it is muted or camera is off.

Please leave your mic on MUTE (red microphone icon) during session
You may leave your camera on or off. Please note that I can offer specific-to-you alignment cues when your camera is on.
If possible, set up the camera so that I can see the long side of your mat. Ideally far enough away that I can see the full view of the mat as well as your full body when you are standing.
Recommended Props
Get creative with how you will find support! You might not need the “yoga gear” though the designs of traditional yoga props offer more fluid transitions and increased ease in finding your pose.
Yoga mat
Yoga strap (or old neck tie/long belt)
2 yoga blocks
Yoga Bolster. Alternatively, a 3 foot long firm cushion, such as a firm cushion normally used for the seat portion of a sofa OR a few stacked tightly woven blankets (these ought to be firm and not fluffy).
Yoga therapy ball may be used the 1st Monday of each month (I recommend getting one 3.5” but anything between 2.5" and 3.5” will do, as will a tennis ball). This is extremely deep myofascial release work, using self massage and trigger points to help ease tension, which regulates the nervous system.
What to Expect from This Yoga Class:
You will find continuity through my classes, as I strive to use consistent language to teach alignment. The method is research based, founded in bio-mechanical and therapeutic principles, and intended to unlock properties which alchemize with your felt sense in order to liberate static energy.
Class themes are inspired by my personal experiences, often weaving story, symbolism, and dharma (Buddhist teachings). There are opportunities to invite imagery, archetypes, memories, and deep personal and collective desires. It can feel emotionally intimate, while grounded in the presence of body.
Some familiarity with yoga is highly recommended, as there are many poses which require stamina and strength. However, if you work with the body in a mindful way, and with a gentle attitude, you will have an excellent foundation for these classes. Modifications are offered and encouraged.
About My Yoga Path
I began my studies with Iyengar Yoga in 1999, when a bicycle accident left me with three spinal disc bulges and intense chronic pain. After exhausting chiropractic work and physical therapy, and being given a referral for back surgery, I desperately turned to Yoga for refuge. Initially, I believed the practice was a structural, physiological, “fix-it” antidote. Soon, my experience softened to a journey of body, mind, and spirit. Since that time, I have studied in several Yoga schools, primarily focused in the Anusara tradition, a systematic approach weaving the technology of bio-mechanics with tantric themes and archetypal expressions based in a non-dual Hindu tradition. I have studied with Tara Judelle, Sianna Sherman, Jodi Shaw, Paul Grilley, Tias Little, and Carl Dawson (direct student of B.K.S Iyengar), as well as hands on Anatomy studies (via fine art and building the human body in 3D) with Rey Bustos. I continue to be blessed with excellent teachers to enrich my studies and am learning, studying, and practicing diligently.
I’ve had the fortune to teach at several yoga studios, gyms, and community centers in the LA area. In addition, I’ve developed Yoga workshops for staff at County USC Hospital and The Children’s Hospital of LA, which focused on reducing the effects of compassion fatigue in healthcare workers. I formed the curriculum for an introductory Hatha Yoga class at University of the West for students in their freshman year of college, which tended to personal health, offered an overview of the history and philosophy of yoga, and dynamically investigated the impact and relevance of yoga in society through pop culture. I taught a plethora of Yoga courses and workshops at Cal-State University Los Angeles to both faculty and students, focusing on strength conditioning and mobility through calisthenics based yoga (using body weight to increase stability, stamina, endurance, and flexibility).
I have a wealth of understanding and passion for the hatha yogic chakra system, as well as a knack for integrating the elements of nature with the psychological texture of emotions. Currently, my teaching approach is heavily influenced by my own deep studies in Tibetan Buddhism, Shambhala Teachings, as well as an earthy transmission of alignment based yoga. The intention of healing injuries, preventing harm, and experiencing the freedom and joys of movement are at the core of my path. I take this seat with honor and feel the body as a mandala—-alive with intricate dimensionality, gateways, protectors, vulnerable bridges, jewels, diamonds, gardens, rivers, lakes, fires, annoying guests, enemies, friends, and weapons. These components are also expressed as the ordinary bones, organs, skin, blood, teeth, muscles, fascia, and joints of our physical body. This mandala of our body is vivid, and though temporary, generously expresses wisdom.
Ultimately, I wish for students to feel more open, in touch with their hearts, allow for personal discoveries based on direct personal experience, and truly feel the body, within its boundaries and in its freedom. I enjoy holding questions while we move, as a gestational process for birthing body wisdom. I delight in the liberation of energy. Simply put, steadying the mind and trusting movement brings me true happiness.
